DSM Dyneema is transporting more and more goods by road to non-EU countries such as Ukraine, and that brings along the necessary challenges. "The documents must be in order to prevent delays," says Marco de Vries, supply chain operations manager at DSM.
DSM Dyneema supplies the world's strongest and lightest fiber (polyethylene) under the Dyneema® brand name. The fiber is used in various applications, including medical sutures, ropes and cut-resistant gloves and clothing. DSM Dyneema is part of DSM, a global leader in life science and materials science, with 22,000 employees and annual sales of around € 9 billion.
The dynamics of non-EU countries
The DSM Dyneema market is worldwide. The fibers are produced in the Netherlands and the United States, among others. All logistics processes are arranged from the Netherlands, including distribution within Europe.
“Transport to Eastern European countries in particular brings an extra dynamic. For example, the requirements imposed on the documents are strict and it is possible that processes can be delayed at customs for the customs employees' own gain. As a result, it can happen that shipments arrive late for customers, ”continues De Vries.
“DSV helps us arrange transport as well as possible. All customs documents are prepared by DSV and they take care of the transport to non-EU countries. We are satisfied with how this is handled by DSV. This way the contact goes smoothly when something goes wrong. "
In addition to road transport, DSV also manages the European distribution center of DSM.
"We have been doing business with DSV for more than 25 years and our logistics organization has changed considerably over the years, but despite these changes, DSV remains one of our most important logistics partners."
“DSM is a great customer with whom we have a long-term partnership. We try to respond proactively to changes in their logistics chain and unburden the company with regard to transport and customs activities. Road transport to non-EU countries can sometimes be a challenge, but thanks to our experienced team we can serve customers such as DSM excellently, "explains Angre Hermans, division manager at DSV Road in the Netherlands.
